EDS Awareness day 14

Day 14 – Supporter Shout Out

First of all, today is Mother's day. So I would like to acknowledge all the moms out there. The people moms, the pet moms, the dads who are also the mom and the stand-in moms who step up for those who may not have a mom. I most especially want to shine a light on the Zebra moms who have to deal with the daily fun of EDS while caring for a child/children who possibly even have inherited this condition. I see you because I am you.

Being a mom is hard, being a mom with EDS is an adventure of a lifetime. So having a good support system is so very important. Unfortunately for many of us, we have to spend all our energy each day on our kids with little time for self-care if any at all. By the end of the day, we are more than wiped out, we are truly exhausted. This leaves very little energy to socialize and keep up friendships. So many friendships fizzle away as fast as they began.

My main support is my Husband. He is a true gem who does all the things when I can’t. He tries to be supportive of me however he can. I’m sure it isn't easy for him but he does it. He is always there and always shows up even when he is tired and exhausted from a long day of work. Witnessing my health decline is also very impactful to him. It's not just my loss it is his loss as well. He has to learn to adjust in much the same way I have. The difference is he can’t really fathom the extent of pain and suffering I go through which makes understanding very difficult. I know it can be hard for him but I am so glad he doesn't have to experience what I do

I also have my mom's squad! These ladies keep me going. We meet once a week with our Supermom leader who is the biggest ray of sunshine on even the darkest of days.  We laugh, we cry and we pray hard for one another. I couldn't ask for a better group of ladies to be in my corner.

Then I have a couple friends who are happy to come over to my house (which is my happy place.) They doesn't care if the house is a mess, heck they don't care if I'm a mess they just care. People like this are invaluable.

I have many other people in my corner, My Aunt and Uncle, My 7 amazing kids, and a whole Irish club full of amazing caring people. I have to say I feel truly blessed by all the people in my life. It is so important to have people who love you for you. Not for what you've done, or what you will do.

You are amazing just the way you are!

Who has supported you through the challenges of EDS or HSD? Who are your champions, the people you call, the people who sit with you or take you to appointments?

Give them a shout-out today on our Facebook group!

Talk about them, say thanks, and tag them. If it’s your mom even better! Shares picture of the two of you. We'd love to see them!

Happy Mother's day to all the moms out there!

I see you…

I hear you…

And I am so glad you are here ❤️
